Burning Man

back from Burning Man early with a really bad flu. this year I saw the other side of burning man. thanks to all the volunteers and medical staff and fellow burners for looking after me. thanks Logan, Babs, Macro and Jake! have a good burn for me

Although my time out in Black Rock City was cut short this year, I got to experience the same intimates of the community that made me enjoy last year. Russel was talking today about how safety needs to be present for real play to happen. That's what I experienced this year: The safety and caring of the community. The top black and white photo is me meeting our neighbor Toby and getting a great view of the city from atop his RV (click to enlarge, photo by Babs). Below are some images of exploration the first night. Although some parts of burning man leave me extremely skeptical for right now the participation and small conversational gifts i get from others is satisfying.

Collect and Respond: You are invited!

Collect and Respond. You are invited to do just that: Collect & Respond. Monday, August 24th is the start of a community-wide collaboration. A bulletin board is located in the "reference Gallery" in Prim Library. This will be a space to map our community's thoughts/activities and provide opportunity to respond to others.

I have been thinking about community and then in photo we stubbed arouse a Robert Frank photo of a bulletin board. And then Russel showed me the quote below from (Ways of Seeing, John Berger). I am interested in mapping our committees thoughts and providing a space for different majors and departments on campous to communicate and increage cross pollination. The bulletin board will be up through the 24th of sep and then i will be making a zine out of the contents.

“Adults and children sometimes have boards in their bedrooms or living-rooms on which they pin pieces of paper: letters, snapshots, reproductions of paintings, newspaper cuttings, original drawings, postcards. On each board all the images belong to the same language and all are more or less equal within it, because they have been chosen in a highly personal way to match and express the experience of the room’s inhabitant. Logically, these boards should replace museums.”
- Ways of Seeing, John Berger
